A Two-Way Love

We all have our own way of seeing the world, of dreaming; our own beliefs, experiences, cravings, and desires. In other words, a world of our own in which we feel comfortable and safe. When you know the basics of happiness, there are certain things you try to avoid. Like not thinking too much about the future, not comparing yourself to others, or not being jealous of your friends' success. But there is one thing you cannot avoid even if you wanted to—something that climbs through the window when you close the door and never asks for permission. Subtly, we are spellbound; we are unprepared because it leaves us no time.

— Hi, would you mind telling me what your name is?
— Well! I thought I’d told you, it’s Melissa. But you can also call me Méli.
— Now that you’ve said it, I truly remember. Melissa is a very pretty name, I like it a lot.
— I appreciate that. Do you like music? Because I love it; I can’t live without music.
— Yes, I love music too; it helps me escape for a few moments. To me, it’s a kind of therapy, a gateway that changes my universe the moment I step through it.
— And what’s your favorite movie?
— I like action movies, dramas, and especially detective stories.
— No way, those are my favorite kind of movies too.

Most of the time, we would have preferred not to meet certain people in our lives. They show up at almost the wrong place and the wrong time. The best solution would be to run away, but at what cost? We, who have suffered so much, we, who have given so much—here we are once again, expected to surrender everything to someone else.

— Do you have any friends? Because I notice you’re often off in your own corner, even when the others are talking among themselves.
— No, I don’t really have friends. Besides, the ones I consider my friends are those I can trust. The foundation of a true friendship, right?
— You know, I really like your way of thinking. It seems very sincere.
— That’s because it is sincere.
— Wow! What a way of speaking... you must be one of those people who are so rare to find.

— Probably, since I’ve always felt different from the others.
From these few words, we feel the conversation growing, just like the interest we take in it. And what if it were possible? What if we could try to believe in it, even just a little bit? Does what we feel always have to remain unexpressed?
