Joy is an emotion, a feeling of satisfaction or pleasure, that an individual experiences at the moment one of their aspirations or desires comes to be satisfied in a real or imaginary way, or sometimes, for no apparent reason. It is often taken as a synonym for happiness or pleasure.

Philosophy

Joy is a notion that designates, in its most common sense, the intense feeling of a person in the presence of another person, a situation, a spiritual good, or a piece of knowledge, which delights them.

Feeling and Emotion

A feeling is an emotion linked to a thought. Feelings are reactions that human beings experience in response to events or situations.

Emotion is a sudden, temporary, and involuntary affective reaction, often accompanied by physical manifestations, caused by an intense feeling of fear, anger, surprise, admiration, or disappointment.

Real and Imaginary Joy

We speak of real joy just as we can also speak of "True Joy." It is a feeling of well-being felt deep within oneself, sometimes comparable to an ecstasy that one manages to achieve through the acceptance, the realization of a dream, a goal, or something else.

Imaginary joy is a joy created by the mind, by thought, sometimes with the aim of escaping thoughts or problems of everyday life. But it can also be generated by the visualization of a desire, a craving for a future that one conceives in the mind.
